I have always enjoyed using and collecting yardage books when traveling and playing a course which I was not familiar with. I was intrigued when asked to take a look at the new Green Books from GolfLogix. At the time we were headed to Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida and had a tee time at the Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass. While I have played there a few times over the year, I was looking forward to using the GolfLogix Green Book during my round.
When I received the Green Book, I found that it was understated in design but chock full of valuable information. It is very different than a yardage book that you would purchase in the pro shop at the course. See the images below on the difference between the GolfLogix Green Book on TPC Sawgrass Stadium Course and the one I purchased in the pro shop.
The GolfLogix Green Book really excels on the information that it provides on and around the green.
For each hole there are three diagrams:
1. Heat Map: Indicates the severity of the break and is color coded to recognize the slope.
2. Putt Breaks: Indicates a detailed view of how the green breaks.
3. Hole View: Indicates the entire hole in 50-yard increments and distances across the hole including hazards.
The Hole View provided a good overview of the hole but the Heat Map and Putt Breaks diagrams is where the Green Book really provides information that you can’t get without an experienced caddie. The day we played we had an experienced forecaddie and I enjoyed checkin his advice versus the Green Book. There were a few times that I was able to highlight a couple of breaks in the green that the forecaddie didn’t see.
Price for the Green Book ranges from $30-$40 each depending on specific course. We highly recommend this product. It will assist you greatly in reading the greens you are playing. We found it good practice to study the Green Book prior to playing the round to get yourself acquainted with the hole and anticipate your approach shots depending on the pin placement. All in all, a good product that golfers will appreciate if they take the time to understand how they can benefit from the information that it provides in a straightforward manner.
